Kansas City Comets News Release

INDEPENDENCE, MO. - Today the Comets have announced a pair of player signings who will be looking to make an immediate impact on the team as they prepare for the 2022 Ron Newman Cup playoffs after clinching the MASL Central Division Title. Per league and team policies, the terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

Mako Makoanyane was signed by the team to a two-year contract and Comets' owner Brian Budzinski described Mako's style and college experience.

"Mako comes to us from Columbia College one of the top NAIA programs in the country coached by John Klein. Mako is a very active and pacey player. Once he gets adjusted to the indoor game, fans are going to love the energy he plays with," said Budzinski.

The newest Comet echoed the excitement and acknowledged the technical staff in Kansas City by saying "I am very excited to officially be part of the Kansas City Comets. It's a blessing to be part of such a great team; be coached and play alongside legends, and very talented players. I'm very excited to learn from everyone and contribute towards winning more championships with the team."

Mako is expected to make his MASL debut on Sunday in Milwaukee for the Comets final road game of the regular season.

The Comets also added an English-born player with a history of winning. Kansas City has announced the addition of forward Junior Kazeem to the squad with the 2022 Ron Newman Cup Playoffs on the horizon. Per team and league policies, the terms of the agreement were not released.

Junior was a big part of a Central Methodist University team that captured the NAIA Championships during his junior and senior seasons in 2018 and 2019. Both seasons saw him given a spot on the Heart All-Conference Team. During the Championship seasons, Junior played in 50 games, starting 38 of them.

His winning ways and athletic abilities are expected to make an immediate impact as noted by Comets Owner Brian Budzinski.

"All Junior has done is win championships. He won back-to-back NAIA National Championships at Central Methodist under Coach Alex Nichols and recently won Back-to-Back NPSL Heartland Division championships for the Tulsa Athletics. Junior is a strong, active, and fast forward. He is going to create some matchup problems for teams around the league as a target forward," Budzinski said.

The Comets are on the road today with a big contest in Milwaukee at 1:05 pm for their final road game of the regular season. Following an April 2 stop in St. Louis, the Comets will return to Cable Dahmer Arena to close out the regular season against the Ambush on April 3 at 5:00 pm.
