Kansas City Comets News Release
Kansas City, MO - The Kansas City Comets announced on Monday that the club has signed forward Jamar Beasley to a Major Indoor Soccer League offer sheet. As per club and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Beasley will be with the team when the Comets open training camp at 9:00 a.m. this Wednesday, September 10, at the club's official training site, the Soccer Dome at 5909 Equitable Road in Kansas City. "We're very pleased to sign a player of Jamar's caliber as we prepare for camp," said Comets Head Coach and Vice President Zoran Savic. "He's an electrifying young player, and he'll fit well with our team as we try to get younger and faster. We couldn't be happier with this deal."
The 23-year-old Beasley joins the Comets after spending this past summer with the Charleston Battery and Indiana Blast of the outdoor A-League. The native of Ft. Wayne, IN, began his professional career in 1998, when he signed with Major League Soccer directly out of high school. In four MLS seasons with the New England Revolution and Chicago Fire, Beasley scored seven goals and 22 points in 59 regular season games. At the time of his signing, Beasley was the youngest player in MLS history. Prior to joining the Battery, the 5-10, 160-pound Beasley spent time in Italy with Serie "C" club Puteolana, and also trained with Italian power AC Milan in 1998.
Beasley, whose younger brother DaMarcus currently stars with the U.S. National Team and Chicago Fire, played with the U20 National Team in the 1999 Youth World Championships. A 1998 Parade Magazine All-American, Beasley was hailed as one of American soccer's future stars in the April 13, 1998 issue of Sports Illustrated.
