
Comets Sign Clinesmith and McCain; Stephens and Suber Waived

HOUSTON - The Houston Comets announced today that the team has signed guards Stacy Clinesmith and Brandi McCain. The team also waived forward/center Stacy Stephens and guard Tora Suber.
Clinesmith (5-5, UC-Santa Barbara '00) has averaged 1.9 points and 1.5 assists in three WNBA seasons with the Sacramento Monarchs and Detroit Shock. She was originally selected by Sacramento in the second round (30th overall) of the 2000 WNBA Draft. Clinesmith was traded by the Monarchs to the Shock for a 2003 fourth-round pick on May 10, 2002. She was waived by Detroit on May 23, 2003. Clinesmith signed as a free agent with the Seattle Storm on April 26, 2004, but was released during training camp. (Will wear #8 with Comets)

McCain (5-3, Florida '02) played in 31 games for the Cleveland Rockers in 2002, averaging 2.7 points and 1.3 assists. She was selected by Cleveland in the second round (24th overall) of the 2002 WNBA Draft. McCain was most recently in training camp with the Los Angeles Sparks. (Will wear #12 with Comets)

Suber (5-7, Virginia '97), who re-signed with the Comets on April 19, 2004, has seen action in three WNBA seasons with the Charlotte Sting and Orlando Miracle. She holds career averages of 4.0 points, 1.8 assists and 1.3 rebounds in 83 WNBA games. Suber was previously in camp with the Comets in 2002.
Stephens (6-1, Texas '04), who was Houston's third-round selection (37th overall) in the 2004 WNBA Draft, wrapped up her career at Texas ranked second all-time in rebounding (1,223) and eighth in total points (1,708).
