December 11, 2022 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Kansas City Comets News Release

The Central Division Champion Comets (1-1-1) and Milwaukee Wave (1-0-0) renew their Eastern Conference rivalry today at Cable Dahmer Arena. Both teams were in action yesterday with the Comets dropping a 5-3 decision in Mesquite and the Wave winning their home opener over St. Louis by a 7-3 final. Today's game is expected to sell out for a Comet's team that is tops in attendance with only one home date against several teams with multiple home games.

Despite the one win so far, the Comets still sit atop the Eastern Conference with four points. Milwaukee, Florida, Baltimore, and Utica trail Kansas City by just one point early in the season. The Wave and their +4 goal differential lead the conference in that statistic and are second only to Monterrey's +6 in the MASL.

The Comets enter today's contest led offensively by John Sosa's six points on two goals and four assists. Lucas Sousa leads the club in goals with three. Steven Tekesky made his debut in goal last night as Nicolau Neto served his one-game suspension. Neto is eligible for today's contest. In goal for the Wave, William Banahene allowed just two goals last night against St. Louis while picking up 11 saves.

It was Ian Bennett who set the pace on goals for the Wave with a hat trick. The point leader in the game for Milwaukee was Andre Hayne with a pair of goals and assists good for four points. Marcio Leite and Derek Huffman also had multi-point games in their home opener.

Both come in even on special teams with .500 averages on penalty kill and power play opportunities.

Kansas City will next be in action on December 16 in Milwaukee before returning home to face the St. Louis Ambush the next night, December 17 at 6:05 pm. Tickets for those and all Comets home games are available at www.kccomets.com/tickets.
