Kansas City Comets News Release
(Kansas City, MO) The Comets Major Indoor Soccer League team today announced that they have released Forward, Levi Coleman from his contract. Coleman, who split his college playing days at Florida International and locally at UMKC, will return to where his professional career started, with the Charleston Battery of the United Soccer League PRO. Last summer, Coleman was instrumental in helping the Battery to the 2010 USL2 Championship.
Coleman was signed by the Comets on November 1st, just eleven days before the team's season opener. After only a few days with the team, Coleman suffered a broken leg at practice. Once fully recovered, Coleman saw limited playing time, appearing in only four games without scoring a point. Coleman's release now allows him to participate in the Carolina Challenge Cup, a week-long tournament in which the Charleston Battery will take on three MLS teams: the Chicago Fire, Toronto FC and D.C. United. The tournament started yesterday (Saturday).
"Levi made tremendous strides as a player this season," said Comets' Head Coach, Kim Roentved. "We had so much depth up front, that when Levi was finally healthy enough to play, the rotation had been set. We hope he has a great summer in Charleston, and hope to give him another look in the fall with the Comets."
Recently-acquired forward, Anthony Maher from the Chicago Riot, will take Coleman's roster spot. Comets, 7-11 on the season, play the Chicago Riot this afternoon at 3:10 p.m., and have suddenly pulled into a tie for third place in the standings and tied for the third and final playoff spot with the Omaha Vipers, making Sunday's game even more important.
Tickets: Comets single-game tickets can be purchased online at ticketmaster.com. Groups and youth soccer teams can also "Play Like the Comets" on the field before every Comets home game.
