January 25, 2012 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL)
Syracuse Silver Knights News Release
The Syracuse Silver Knights lost to Missouri 33-12 on Wednesday night, dropping the Silver Knights to a 6-11 record. The loss puts them a game and a half behind Rochester for second place in the Eastern Division.
Five players scored for Syracuse. Daniel Stevens led the team with two goals, while Alex Megson, Andriy Budnyy, Nelson Santana, and Cory Elenio each scored one goal. Elenio assisted with three of those goals, and Megson had two assists.
But the Silver Knights could not keep up with Missouri's speed. Leo Gibson opened the scoring just 51 seconds into the game. After Stevens scored in the fifth minute, five different Comets scored each of the next five goals over eight minutes into the second quarter.
Syracuse held the Comets to two goals in the second quarter and added two of their own. After a back-and-forth open to the third quarter, Vahid Assadpour opened the scoring for Missouri in the sixth minute. Byron Alvarez completed a hat trick in the third quarter. He also passed Rochester's Mauricio Salles for the league's second-leading scorer (55 points).
Leading scorer Geison (69 points) also added to his scoring tally with a hat trick of his own and another goal. Assadpour also completed a hat trick on the night.
The Silver Knights travel to Milwaukee on Sunday to take on the league-leading Wave (12-2 record) at 4:00 PM EST. Syracuse returns home to the War Memorial at Oncenter on Thursday, February 9, to take on the Norfolk Sharx.
