Kansas City Comets News Release

Next Game: The Comets next game is going to be a special one at home this Friday, January 28th at 7:35 p.m. at the Independence Events Center against the Milwaukee Wave. The game is also Comets Retro Night, where many former, familiar Comets/KC Attack greats will be playing a fun scrimmage at halftime. Alan Mayer, Gino Schiraldi, Kia, Goran Hunjak, Emilio John, Doug Neely, Ted Eck, Gordon Hill, Ben Popoola and many other former Comets players will be on hand. This year's Comets team will be playing in replica jerseys of the iconic rainbow-striped uniforms worn during the team's inaugural 1981-1982 season. The Comets are encouraging all long-time Comets fans to break out their old Comets gear and wear it to the game. The first 1,000 kids in attendance will receive a Gino Schiraldi playing card courtesy of Shocking Prices.

Last Game: After a near-comeback on Saturday night against Baltimore at the IEC, the Comets came back big-time at Omaha after being down 14-6 in the 3rd period, then down 18-12 with nine minutes left in the game to win 21-20 in the highest scoring game in the MISL this season. Ironically, these same two teams squared off a week earlier on Sunday January 16th in the LOWEST scoring game of the MISL season, which Omaha won 6-4. Both teams are now 2-0 on the other team's home turf.

Training Schedule: After back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday, the Comets players have the day off today (Monday). They will resume practice Tuesday through Friday at the KC Soccer Dome from 9:00-11:30 a.m.

Comets Leaders: With 2 goals on Saturday night and a hat trick on Sunday, Comets' forward Byron Alvarez (38 points) became the #2 scoring leader in the MISL so far this season, only two points behind Omaha's Carlos Farias. Forward Jamar Beasley, with a goal on Saturday and two goals on Sunday (30 points), is the #5 scoring leader. Comets' Leo Gibson is tied with Farias for the most 3-point goals with four. The Comets as a team lead the league by a "long shot" in 3-point goals, with eleven. Baltimore and Milwaukee are tied for the 2nd most 3-pointers with seven.
