Comets Host St. Louis Saturday
October 6, 2003 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Kansas City Comets News Release
The Kansas City Comets open their 2003-04 season this Saturday, October 11, as the intrastate rival St. Louis Steamers come to town. Game time at Kemper Arena is 7:35 p.m.
The game will mark the Comets' debuts of Jamar Beasley, Aleksey Korol, and Matt Tanzini. It will also be the first time since the 1999-2000 NPSL season that Kansas City and St. Louis have met on the indoor soccer field. The '99-00 campaign marked the last year of existence for the St. Louis Ambush; the St. Louis Steamers joined the World Indoor Soccer League in 2000, and were an inactive MISL member in 2002-03.
The game will be broadcast live on KCKN Sports Radio 1340 AM, once again the radio home of the Comets for 2003-04. Veteran broadcaster Nick Vasos will provide the call for every Comets game, home and away, this season.
The Comets will give away team posters to a limited number of fans in attendance at Saturday's game, and a fireworks display will follow the contest.

Kansas City Comets practices are open to the media and public. Please call Sharon Capps at 816-474-2255 to confirm player and staff availability.
Next Saturday, October 18, the expansion Monterrey Fury comes to town (7:35 p.m.), before the Comets embark on a four-game road swing that will take the team to St. Louis (October 25), San Diego (November 9), Milwaukee (November 14), and Philadelphia (November 15).
SAVIC SETS SIGHTS ON 200:
With one more win, Comets Head Coach Zoran Savic can add another item to his litany of accomplishments. That victory will make him only the second coach in League history to win 200 regular season games. The native of Gornijo Millanovic, Yugoslavia, has gone 199-165 in his nine seasons as Kansas City head coach, posted a 23-22 playoff record, earned two championship rings (one as Coach, one as General Manager), and been named Coach of the Year twice (1992-93 and 1994-95).
Interestingly, the only other man in League history to achieve the 200-win mark is current Milwaukee Wave coach Keith Tozer (427 career wins in this League), who preceded Savic as head coach of the Kansas City franchise (located in Atlanta in '89-90 and '90-91).
MISL KICKS OFF WITH THREE GAMES:
The Major Indoor Soccer League kicked off its 2003-04 schedule this past weekend with three games. On Saturday, the Philadelphia KiXX defeated the San Diego Sockers 5-2 in San Diego, and the Dallas Sidekicks rolled past the Monterrey Fury 9-2 at Reunion Arena. The expansion Fury responded on Sunday with their first victory, an 8-6 triumph over the Sidekicks.
Philadelphia's Peter Pappas was named Goalkeeper of the Week, while Monterrey's Genoni Martinez won Defensive honors and Dallas' David Doyle earned the Offensive award.
