Comets Announce Assistant Coaches

(Kansas City) - The Comets Professional Indoor Soccer Team has announced the hiring of Vlatko Andonovski & Douglas McLagan as assistant coaches. Both coaches have extensive experience playing professional indoor soccer, including playing for previous versions of the Comets in Kansas City.

For head coach, Kim Roentved, having experienced coaches with ties to the area was a major factor in bringing the two men on board. "Having Vlatko & Doug on my coaching staff just made my job a lot easier, that's for sure.- said Roentved. "Their years of playing professional indoor soccer, along with their ability to teach the game, recruit players & help lead this team into this exciting, new era is a perfect match for this organization.-

The two coaches will assist Roentved as he begins to assemble the team's roster for the upcoming season, which begins November 12th at the Independence Events Center. Last week, the team announced that open tryouts will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, October 3rd at the Kansas City Soccer Dome, located at 5909 Equitable Road in Kansas City. The Soccer Dome will also be the official training facility for the Comets. Any players wishing to try out for the team can print out a registration form online at www.cometsindoorsoccer.com . The deadline to submit a registration is Friday, September 28th .

About the Assistant Coaches:

Vlatko Andonovski

Vlatko joins the Comets as Assistant Coach with an incredible soccer pedigree that includes an illustrious professional indoor soccer career as well as coaching some of the country's finest young soccer players. Vlatko started his professional indoor career in 2000 with the Wichita Wings. In 2001, he joined the Comets, where he played until 2005, During his time with the team, he was named the Comets Most Improved Player of the Year in 2002, Defender of the Year in 2002, & Comets Most Valuable Player of the Year in 2005. He was also a 2-time MISL All Star. Currently, Vlatko is Director of Coaching for Futura FC & the Head Coach of the Kansas City Kings semi-professional Indoor Soccer Team. Vlatko resides in Kearney, MO, with his wife & two children.

Douglas McLagan

Doug attended Cardiff University in Wales, UK from 1982 - 1986 where he graduated with a BA in Human Movement Studies and Post Graduate Certificate in Education. He played all four years for the All British Collegiate team. He then came to the United States and played in the MISL for The Kansas City Comets from 1988 - 1990. When the Comets folded, Doug followed then-teammate, Kim Roentved, to play for the Wichita Wings from 1990 - 1991 in the MSL. Later that year, Doug was hired as a teacher at Blue Springs High School where he currently teaches Physical Education and works with Special Education students. His High School boys soccer team was the first ever to win a Missouri State title in 1996, and not be from the St Louis area. Doug currently resides in Lee's Summit with his wife & three kids. He coaches in the KCFC club and likes to spend his time watching his kids play soccer and following his favorite team, Chelsea.

The MISL represents the Major League of professional indoor soccer in the United States and Mexico and features the finest indoor soccer players from around the world. The league currently has seven member clubs for the 2010-11 season: Baltimore Blast, La RaZa de Monterrey, Milwaukee Wave, Missouri Comets, Philadelphia KiXX, Rockford Rampage and the newest MISL club in Omaha, NE. The upcoming 2010-11 regular season will begin in mid- November and will end in late March. The postseason will begin and the end of March and conclude in the beginning of April. The Comets home opener is November 12th , and the complete 2010-11 MISL regular season schedule will be released in the near future.
