Kansas City Comets News Release

KANSAS CITY - The Kansas City Comets announced today the signing of two players, both to 2-year contracts: defender, Alvaro (Alvie) Beltran and newcomer, midfielder Henry Ramirez. Per team and league policies, terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Ramirez is a former standout at the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC). The California native comes to the Comets by way of AFC Ann Arbor of the NPSL, where he scored six goals to go along with five assists in 15 games. Ramirez is known for his hard work and relentless defensive pressure.

Ramirez says that he is thankful for the opportunity to play professional arena soccer. "I am grateful to Coach Gibson for believing in me and giving me this chance," he said. "I am looking forward to learning from veterans like Coach Gibson, (John) Sosa and (Stefan) Stokic."

Beltran, from Santiago, Chile, played for the Comets during the 2017-18 season, appearing in 10 games. He scored one goal to go along with one assist before dislocating and breaking his elbow in February 2018. In 2012, Beltran helped lead his MidAmerica Nazarene to the NAIA National Championship Final Four.

"I am excited to be a Kansas City Comet again and play for Coach Gibson," Beltran said. "The foundation is there for the team to have a very successful season."

Comets Head Coach Leo Gibson had this to say about each signee: "Henry is a young player who we have been watching for a while. He has a ton of pace to compliment his technical abilities. Alvie is someone we tried to bring back last year. He's a pro and will be firmly in the defensive mix this season."

The Kansas City Comets 2020-21 season kicks off this winter at Cable Dahmer Arena (formerly Silverstein Eye Centers Arena). Season tickets are on sale now and group tickets will be on sale later this fall. For the latest news and information, visit KCComets.com and follow the team on Facebook, Instagram and twitter.
