Worcester Bravehearts News Release

Worcester, MA - The Worcester Bravehearts dropped Thursday night's contest 6-4 to the Vermont Lake Monsters at Fitton Field.

With the win, Vermont moves to 31-12. The Bravehearts fall to 17-25.

Vermont struck early on, with a sacrifice fly by Brian Schaub (Trinity [TX]) scoring Gio Cueto (Wake Forest)

Leading 1-0, the Lake Monsters broke through in the second with four more runs. After Jordan Kelly (Princeton) came home on a passed ball, Cueto drove in Cooper Kelly (Kansas) on an RBI single. A two-run double by Tommy Hawke (Wake Forest) capped off the inning, scoring both Cueto and Jackson Kline (Kansas).

Connor Peek (Holy Cross) homered in the bottom of the third to get the Bravehearts on the board.

The 'Hearts added another run in the bottom of the sixth thanks to an RBI double by Matty Warren (Palm Beach Atlantic) that scored Sebastian Mexico (Fordham).

Vermont added an insurance run in the top of the ninth, with Cooper Kelly scoring on an error.

Despite a solo home run by Cam Seymour (Southern Maine) and an RBI triple by Mexico that scored Peek, the Bravehearts' comeback attempt fell short, as Vermont held on for the 6-4 win.

Lake Monsters starter Sean Matson (Harvard) picked up the win. He gave up two earned runs in six innings of work on four hits and a walk while striking out nine. The loss went to the Bravehearts' Joe Hauser (Northeastern), who gave up five earned runs on eight hits and a walk, striking out seven across five innings.

The Bravehearts are back at Fitton Field Friday evening for a rematch with Vermont. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30.
