Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LANCASTER, Calif. - The JetHawks comeback came up just short on Friday night as Lancaster fell to the Visalia Rawhide, 12-10, in a wild game at The Hangar.

A crowd of 3,680 packed the house for the first Friday Fireworks show of the season and were treated to plenty of fireworks in the fourth inning.

With the JetHawks up 5-3, the Rawhide put up eight runs on eight hits to pull ahead, 11-5. Starter Blair Walters was knocked out of the game after he took a Tom Belza line drive off his left arm with one out in the inning. Jonas Dufek (0-2) came in to relieve Walters and allowed six runs on five hits. Dufek could only record one out and T.J. Geith was called upon to end the inning. Geith allowed a run as well.

Lancaster came back in the fourth inning with their own rally. Matt Duffy led off with a solo home run and the JetHawks proceeded to score four more runs on four hits.

Brandon Meredith, who hit a three-run homer in the first inning, drew a bases loaded walk and Preston Tucker followed with a two-RBI single to extend his hitting streak to 15 games and give him a Cal League-best 52 RBI on the season. Tyler Heineman concluded the scoring with an RBI-single.

Rawhide starter Keith Hessler was removed from the game after Heineman's hit. He was charged with 10 runs on 12 hits. Seth Simmons (3-1) took over, ended the inning and ended up pitching 3 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up the win.

After the Rawhide scored an insurance run in the ninth inning, closer Jake Barrett took over to shut the door. The JetHawks picked up two hits in the inning to put the tying run aboard but Barrett struck out Chris Epps and Delino DeShields to end the game.

The JetHawks win streak ended at nine games, matching their longest win streak since 2008.

Aaron West tossed 3 1/3 innings as the piggy-back started and allowed one run on two hits. He struck out four and walked one. Travis Ballew allowed an inherited runner to score in the ninth. He struck out two.

Inland Empire, High Desert and Rancho Cucamonga all lost on Friday night to help the JetHawks maintain a 4 1/2 game lead in the South Division standings.

Lancaster (33-21) takes on Visalia (32-22) in the third game of the four game series on Saturday night at 7:00 pm. Chris Devenski (4-2, 6.79) and Brady Rodgers (4-1, 3.52) are scheduled to pitch against Robert Coe (0-1, 3.60). The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a JetHawks Summertime T-Shirt presented by San Joaquin Valley College.
