LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Wednesday that the Stanley Cup will be on display at the Comcast 2004 UHL All-Star Classic in Fort Wayne, Indiana on January 18, 2004. Representatives from the Hockey Hall of Fame will transport the Stanley Cup from Toronto, Ontario.
The Stanley Cup, hockey's most prized trophy since 1893, has logged over 400,000 miles in the past five years. The most famous trophy in sports travels 250 days per year and has raised over $4 million for charity in the last three years.
In addition to a special media photo opportunity prior to the game, fans attending the league's fifth All-Star Classic will have a chance to see and photograph the Stanley Cup prior to the start of the game and in a viewing line during each intermission.
"Having the Stanley Cup here in Fort Wayne for the Comcast UHL All-Star Game is icing on the cake to what will be night to remember for all fans in attendance on Jan. 18th," said Komet President Michael Franke.
"We are honored to have such a remarkable piece of sports history present for our event and wish to thank the National Hockey League and Hockey Hall of Fame for allowing us to host this trophy," stated President/CEO Richard Brosal.
The Fort Wayne Komets, defending 2003 Colonial Cup champions, earned the franchise's first ever Tarry Cup and hosted the largest crowd (10,593) to ever attend a UHL game. The Komets are enjoying their fifth year as a member of the UHL. The Komet franchise, the second oldest franchise in minor league hockey, was a member of the International Hockey League (IHL) for 47 years prior to joining the UHL in 1999 and is celebrating its 52nd year of professional hockey in the Fort Wayne area.
The UHL is celebrating its 13th consecutive season with 11 member clubs in six states, including the expansion Richmond RiverDogs (Virginia).
