
Columbus Wins Tough Contest against Fayetteville, 4-2

Columbus Cottonmouths News Release
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Columbus Cottonmouths escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Fayetteville FireAntz.
Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Kyle Thomas secured the win for Columbus with a goal in the second period.
The Cottonmouths were led by Thomas, who grabbed one goal. Thomas scored short handed 14:58 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Columbus. Columbus was on a disadvantage when Tyler MacPherson went off the ice for slashing. Andy Willigar assisted on the tally.
The 46 shots that the Cottonmouths put on net surpassed Columbus' average of 30.3 shots per game this season.
Others who scored for Columbus included Louis Belisle, Neilsson Arcibal, and Max Cook, who scored one goal each. More assists for Columbus came via Craig Simchuk, who had two and Patrick McCadden, Levi Lind, and Shawn Bates, who contributed one each.
Fayetteville was helped by Derek Elliott, who registered one goal. Elliott scored 12:02 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Fayetteville. Mike Kavanagh picked up the assist. Randy Cameron also scored for Fayetteville. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from John Clewlow, who had one and Zach Carriveau, who had two.
The Cottonmouths' Andrew Loewen stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Columbus totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Jordan Tibbett made 42 saves for the FireAntz on 46 shots. Fayetteville totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
