FORT MYERS, Fla. - Columbus newcomer Leroy Hurd set a career high, scoring 26 points coming off the bench as the Riverdragons topped the Florida Flame 93-80 in front of 2,223 fans at Germain Arena. The win for Columbus marks the third straight over the Flame on the road and keeps Columbus atop the NBDL standings at 18-8. Florida falls to 7-21 and will take to the road for the rest of the month of February.
Both teams struggled in the first half shooting a combined 37-percent from the floor as the Riverdragons took a two point lead into halftime 40-38.
The second half belonged to Columbus as the Riverdragons used an 11-0 run midway in the third quarter to open a 63-50 lead. Leroy Hurd scored nine of his 26 in the period as Columbus maintained a 16 point lead at the quarter break.
Florida could not mount a comeback as the Flame struggled to connect on shots in the fourth period. The Flame ended the game connecting on 30 of 87 field goals finishing 34-percent from the floor.
Reed Rawlings scored 15 points while Kevin Braswell and Ramel Curry each added 13 for Columbus.
Kirk Haston and Hiram Fuller each recorded a double-double for the Flame. Haston scored 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds while Fuller scored 15 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Byron Mouton also added 16 for Florida.
