
Columbus Signs Center Eric Boguniecki

Syracuse, NY (August 22, 2006) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have signed center Eric Boguniecki (pronounced BOH-guhn-ih-kee) to a two-way National Hockey League/American Hockey League contract.
Boguniecki, 31, is a veteran of 167 career NHL games and has netted 34 goals and 42 assists for 76 points with 97 penalty minutes with Florida, St. Louis and Pittsburgh. He spent the 2005-06 season with St. Louis and Pittsburgh and accumulated 6 goals, 10 assists and 33 penalty minutes in 47 games.
The New Haven, Connecticut, native spent parts of eight seasons in the AHL/IHL and tallied 151 goals, 182 assists and 664 penalty minutes in 335 games. He played under Blue Jackets head coach Gerard Gallant when Gallant was an assistant coach with the Fort Wayne Komets during the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons, as well as with the Louisville Panthers during the 1999-2000 season.
After posting 30 goals, 40 assists and 156 penalty minutes in 73 games during the 2000-01 season with Louisville and Worcester, Boguniecki won the Les Cunningham Award as the AHL's Most Valuable Player. In 2001-02, he netted 84 points (38g, 46a) and 181 penalty minutes and was named to the AHL All-Star First Team. He also represented the United States at the 2000 World Championships and had one assist and two penalty minutes in seven games.
Originally signed as a free agent by the Florida Panthers on July 7, 1999, Boguniecki played four seasons with the University of New Hampshire (HE). He recorded 169 points (78g, 91a) and 232 penalty minutes in 142 games for the Wildcats and was named to the 1996-97 Hockey East All-Star team his senior year.
