Columbus Riverdragons Announce Final Roster to Open NBDL Season

COLUMBUS, Ga.—The Columbus Riverdragons of the National Basketball Developmental League have named their final roster to begin the 2003-04 NBDL season. The Riverdragons, as per league rules, will carry ten players on their roster as they open the season tomorrow night against the Huntsville Flight at 7 p.m. CST at the Von Braun Center.

According to an announcement by Head Coach Jeff Malone, the following players have been released: Vernon Jennings and Derrick Bird.

"This is always a tough day for a coach," said Malone. "Vernon and Derrick are terrific young men who played their hearts out in training camp. However, the performances of Ezra Williams, Tai Crutchfield, Sean Peterson, and Derrick Zimmerman in training camp and our exhibition game at Mississippi State were too hard to ignore. I feel excited about our 10-player roster as we begin the regular season."

The Riverdragons open their 2003-04 home schedule on Friday, November 28 at the Columbus Civic Center, as they take on the Asheville Altitude at 7 p.m.. The first 1,500 fans will receive a free Riverdragons logo T-Shirt, courtesy of Sprint PCS and WRBL. Also, fans will have a chance to win one of three trips to Orlando, Fla., courtesy of Boomer 95.3 FM. The cartoon characters, The PowerPuff Girls will also make a live appearance during the game, sponsored by Knology.
