Columbus Downs Fayetteville in Overtime, 5-4

The Columbus Cottonmouths' Matt Gingera scored 4:26 into overtime to beat the Fayetteville FireAntz, 5-4 (OT).

Gingera had two goals to lead Columbus to victory.

The Cottonmouths racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. Columbus had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Cottonmouths surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Columbus has scored at the pace of 1.9 goal per game during the current campaign. The Cottonmouths struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Fayetteville to score three power play goals on five chances. By firing 43 shots on goal, Columbus exceeded the 28.6 shots it averages per game this year.

Others who scored for Columbus included Kyle Johnson, Kyle Thomas, and Neilsson Arcibal, who each put in one. In addition, Columbus received assists from Craig Simchuk, who had two and Levi Lind and Bryce Williamson, who each chipped in one.

The FireAntz's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 12 minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. Fayetteville surpassed its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game. With 38 shots on target during the contest, the FireAntz exceeded the 29.1 shots they average per game this year.

Fayetteville was led by Austin Daae, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Daae scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:28 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Fayetteville. The FireAntz had taken the advantage when the Cottonmouths' Chris Bailer got sent off for roughing. Randy Cameron assisted on the tally. Daae's next tally on the power play made the score 2-2 with 2:05 left in the second period. Mike Kavanagh picked up the assist. Fayetteville also got points from Cameron, who also had one goal and one assist. Fayetteville also got a goal from Zach Carriveau as well. Other players who recorded assists for Fayetteville were John Clewlow, Shawn Skelly, Derek Elliott, and Kyle McNeil, who contributed one each.

Shannon Szabados recorded 34 saves for Columbus. The Cottonmouths registered one goal on nine power play opportunities. Dustin Carlson rejected 38 shots on goal for Fayetteville.
