Columbus Destroyers sign OL/DL Curt Lessman to active roster

COLUMBUS, OH – As preparations continue for this Sunday's meeting with the New Orleans Voodoo, the Arena Football League's Columbus Destroyers have signed offensive/defensive lineman Curt Lessman to a free agent contract, the team announced today.

Lessman (6-3, 300, Northwest Missouri State) joins the Destroyers after spending the first half of the season as a member of the Detroit Fury. Lessman appeared in six games with the Fury this season, recording five tackles (four solo). He began his AFL career in 2003 with the Carolina Cobras where he registered ten total tackles in 11 games played during his rookie season.

Prior to entering the professional ranks, Lessman enjoyed a successful collegiate career at Northwest Missouri State. He was named First-Team All-Mid America Intercollegiate Athletics Association as a senior in 2001 and participated in the Cactus Bowl, the Division II All-Star game following his senior season. Lessman was also a member of Northwest Missouri State's Division II National Championship team in 1999 after transferring from Wayne State College in Nebraska following his freshman year in 1998.

In other personnel moves, the Destroyers have placed offensive/defensive lineman Marcus McKenzie on injured reserve and activated fullback/linebacker Ricky Wood and wide receiver/defensive back Jarrail Jackson from injured reserve.

The Destroyers are on the road this weekend, traveling to New Orleans to face the expansion Voodoo on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. (ET) The game can be heard live on WAZU, 107.1 FM "The Big Wazoo" with Marty Bannister and Greg Frey calling all the action. Coverage begins at 2:30 p.m. (ET).

Columbus will return home next Sunday, April 25 to take on the defending ArenaBowl champion Tampa Bay Storm at Nationwide Arena. The game has been moved to a 3 p.m. kickoff from its original noon start time.
