April 15, 2004 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
DALLAS OS JASON SHELLEY vs. ARIZONA OS SIAHA BURLEY
The Dallas Desperados look to climb in the standings, while the Arizona Rattlers are on the playoff bubble when the Desperados (6-3) head to America West Arena to play the Rattlers (5-5) on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on NBC. The focus of this matchup will be between two explosive offensive specialists.
Desperados OS JASON SHELLEY (6-2, 192, Central State-Ohio) has at least one touchdown in all but one game this season. The third-year standout has stepped up with career numbers this season (63 receptions for 764 yards, 16 receiving touchdowns and four rushing touchdowns). Shelley's speed, size and leaping ability provides first-year QB GLENN GAUNTT (6-2, 220, South Florida) with a solid go-to option from anywhere on the field.
Rattlers OS SIAHA BURLEY (5-10, 185, Central Florida) has scored a touchdown in every game in a black and copper uniform. Speed, elusiveness and great hands are traits that make him one of QB SHERDRICK BONNER's (6-4, 240, Cal State-Northridge) favorite targets. In his first season with the Rattlers, the former All-Rookie performer leads the team in receptions (80), receiving yards (928) and receiving touchdowns (17).
COLORADO QB JOHN DUTTON vs. NEW YORK QB AARON GARCIA
Drive to ArenaBowl XVIII playoff positioning begins to heat up when Offensive Player of the Year candidate QB AARON GARCIA (6-1, 195, Sacramento State) and the New York Dragons (5-4) host QB JOHN DUTTON (6-5, 210, Nevada) and the Colorado Crush (7-3) on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on NBC.
Garcia has 596 career passing touchdowns and is in a race with Detroit QB ANDY KELLY to become the first professional quarterback to reach 600 career-passing touchdowns. Known for his leadership, toughness and pocket presence, the former Offensive Player of the Year (2001) is 159-of-251 (63.3 percent) for 2,017 yards, 52 touchdowns and six interceptions this year.
Dutton and the Crush have won three of their last four games â with the loss being an overtime defeat to Indiana. The fifth-year signal caller has the size, strength and leadership ability to get the Crush to the title game. The ArenaBowl XVI MVP has completed 203-of-327 (62.1 percent) passes for 2,462 yards and 45 touchdowns and five interceptions.
