Columbus Destroyers Sign Four Free Agents

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The 2007 National Conference champion Columbus Destroyers signed free agent wide receiver Rasheed Marshall, linebacker Nick Reid, fullback Nate Ilaoa and defensive back DeMario Williams, Head Coach Doug Kay announced today. As is club policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Marshall (6-1, 190, West Virginia) was drafted in the fifth round (124th overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. He also spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers and St. Louis Rams during training camp this season. As a Mountaineer quarterback, he was named the Big East Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2004. Marshall ranks second in West Virginia history in total offense with 7,598 yards. In his four-year (2001-04) career, he completed 433-of-795 passes for 5,558 yards and 45 touchdowns; carried the ball 491 times for 2,040 yards and 24 touchdowns. His record as a starting quarterback in college is 24-12.

Reid (6-3, 234, Kansas) signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2006. In 2007, he played for the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe. He started in all 10 games for the Galaxy and finished second on the team with 55 tackles, three sacks, one interception and three passes defended. In college he finished his career (2002-05) with 416 tackles, 41 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, three interceptions, six forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. The Shawnee, Kan. native was named Big-12 Defensive Player of the Year and was a consensus All-Big 12 selection as a senior in 2005 after being named to first-team All-Big 12 in 2004.

Ilaoa (5-9, 245, Hawaii) was selected in the 7th Round (236th overall) in the 2007 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, but was cut at the end of training camp. The Kailua, HI native, attended the University of Hawaii (2001-06) where he finished his career with 1,689 rushing yards on 222 attempts and 20 touchdowns. He is the school record holder for running backs with 151 receptions for 1,694 yards and caught nine touchdowns through the air. His senior season he was rewarded with an All-Western Athletic Conference first-team selection.

Williams (6-1, 210, Gardner Webb) has spent the last two seasons with the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe where he played alongside Reid in 2007 and was a member of World Bowl XIV (2006) championship squad. At Gardner Webb, he was named Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2003 and 2004.

All will be playing in their first Arena Football League season in 2008.
