
Columbus Crew SC to Play Closed-Door Scrimmages against Minnesota United FC in Orlando on July 5 Ahead of MLS Is Back Tournament

COLUMBUS - Columbus Crew SC announced today that the Club is scheduled to play a pair of closed-door 90-minute scrimmages against Minnesota United FC in Orlando on Sunday, July 5 in preparation for the MLS is Back Tournament in Florida at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The Black & Gold depart for Florida on Sunday, June 28 before opening the MLS is Back Tournament on Saturday, July 11 against FC Cincinnati [10:30 p.m. ET / FS1, TUDN and TSN].
Crew SC is in Group E of the MLS is Back Tournament alongside Atlanta United, FC Cincinnati and the New York Red Bulls. Following its opening match against FC Cincinnati on July 11, Crew SC is slated to face the New York Red Bulls on Thursday, July 16 [10:30 p.m. ET / FS1, TUDN and TSN], before closing out the group stage against Atlanta United on Tuesday, July 21 [8:00 p.m. ET / TUDN* and TSN].
Each group stage contest of the MLS is Back Tournament will count for points toward the 2020 regular-season standings. The top three teams from Group A, the six-team group, will advance to the Knockout Stage. Those three teams will be joined by the top two teams from the remaining five groups, as well as the next three highest ranked teams from the Group Stage (the fourth-placed team in Group A is eligible to advance) based on points, goal difference, goals for and fair play points. The winner of the tournament will earn a spot in the 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League.
