Columbus Blows out Pensacola, 4-1

The Pensacola Ice Flyers had trouble finding ways to stop the Columbus Cottonmouths, which beat Ice Flyers, 4-1.

Columbus was led by goalie Andrew Loewen, who finished with 35 saves while allowing one goal. Loewen certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.73 entering the contest.

The Cottonmouths were sparked by Kyle Thomas, who finished with one goal. Thomas scored 14:10 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Columbus.

Columbus put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Pensacola to score on any of its four power plays. The Cottonmouths failed to reach their usual level of shot production, putting 24 pucks on goal after averaging 30.3 shots per game this season.

Columbus also got points from Bryce Williamson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Columbus included Matt Gingera and Shawn Bates, who each put in one. In addition, Columbus received assists from Nick Curry, who had one and Neilsson Arcibal, who had two.

The Ice Flyers managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Pensacola finished below its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. The Ice Flyers were held below their usual level of production. Pensacola puts an average of 4.0 pucks into the net per game. Columbus was unable to stop the Ice Flyers from sending pucks towards the net, and Pensacola eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

The Ice Flyers were led by Mitchell Good, who scored the team's only goal. Good scored 11:25 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Columbus. Jarrett Rush assisted on the tally.

The Cottonmouths incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Garrett Bartus recorded 20 saves for Pensacola.
