Belleville Bulls News Release
BARRIE, ON - The Belleville Bulls headed back to Barrie for game two of their first round Eastern Conference playoff series. The Bulls were looking to even up the series as the Colts took game one with a 3-2 win at the Barrie Molson Centre last Thursday night. Special teams was the story of this game as Barrie opened up the scoring early on the man advantage and never looked back skating to an 8-2 victory.
This time it was the home team lighting the lamp first as over age forward Garrett Hooey jammed home a loose puck on the man advantage to give his club the early lead. The visiting Bulls answered quickly when rookie Matt Luff tipped in a point shot off the stick of Stephen Harper on the power play. Captain Brett Welychka was credited with the other assist.
Two minutes later Michael Cramarossa buried his first of the post season when he jumped on a rebound and beat Mackenzie Blackwood short side. Harper picked up his second point of the night with a helper on the play.
While on another power play in the last minute of play, the OHL's top regular season goal scorer Joseph Blandisi finished off a cross-ice pass from Andrew Mangiapane to tie the game up at two. Kevin Labanc added the other assist. Thirty seconds later and still on the power play the Colts added another as Ben Harpur potted his second of the playoffs. Barrie led 17-4 in shots after the first 20 minutes of action.
The Colts kept their momentum rolling into the middle period as they opened the period with a flurry of chances. Just over the 12-minute mark Hamilton, Ontario native Cordell James added another power play goal. Harpur and Justin Scott had the helpers. Three minutes later Blandisi buried his second of the night when he broke into the Bulls zone and beat Graham with a back hander. Defenceman Jonathan Laser had the assist.
It was much of the same in the final stanza. Just under eight minutes in 1996-born winger Ray Radke netted his first of the playoffs unassisted. Not long after James scored his second of the game from Chadd Bauman and Stephen Nosad.
Bolton, Ontrio native Andrew Mangiapane added another for good measure at 17:47 on the man advantage. Blandisi and Rasmus Andersson added the assists on the final goal of the game.
The Colts went 5/7 on the power play. Charlie Graham made 34 saves while his counterpart Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 25 shots. Barrie takes a 2-0 lead as the series shifts to the friendly city on Wednesday night.
