San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas --- The Colts announced Monday they have traded outfielder Jason Martin, first baseman Joe Weik, and pitchers Matt Larkins and Tommy Hoenshell to the Amarillo Sox of the independent American Association in exchange for future considerations.

Each player spent most, if not all, of last season with the Abilene Prairie Dogs. Former Colts' coach and Prairie Dogs' Manager Bobby Brown is now the Amarillo skipper. Martin, Weik, Larkins and Hoenshell are now reunited with Brown.

Martin had a stellar rookie season in 2012. He led the United League with 127 hits, and batted .332 with seven home runs and 41 RBIs in 92 games. Martin played 82 games with Abilene and 10 with San Angelo. He was traded to the Colts on August 23.

Weik is a devastating power-hitter who finished in the top 10 in average, home runs and RBIs last season. He hit .340 with 12 homers and 67 RBIs in 91 games between Abilene and the Edinburg Roadrunners. Weik's 67 RBIs were the second-most in the league behind Colts' outfielder Cory Patton.

The Prairie Dogs traded Weik to San Angelo less than a week after the 2012 season ended. Now entering his third professional season, Weik has a .317 career batting average with 14 home runs and 85 RBIs in 138 games.

Larkins and Hoenshell were also traded to the Colts from Abilene at the beginning of this offseason. Larkins went 4-1 with a 2.88 earned-run average in 12 games and seven starts. He pitched a complete-game shutout on August 14 against the Fort Worth Cats. Hoenshell went 1-0 with a 2.25 earned-run average in two starts with the Prairie Dogs. Both pitchers are entering their second professional season.

The Colts are a member of United League Baseball who will play their 14th season this year. For more information or to purchase season tickets, contact the Colts' front office at 94-COLTS.
