San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas --- The San Angelo Colts added two players from Saturday's open tryout to their spring training roster.

The Colts announced Saturday they have signed outfielder Andy Wilson and catcher Zach Crosswhite. Both are getting their first opportunity to play professional baseball.

Wilson is the son of former Major League outfielder and All-Star Glenn Wilson. Glenn was a first-round draft pick in 1980 and played ten years in the big leagues with the Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, Seattle Mariners, Pittsburgh Pirates and Houston Astros. After his playing career, Glenn went on to manage teams in the now-defunct Texas-Louisiana League and Central Baseball League.

Glenn's son Andy went to Itawamba Community College in Tupelo, Miss. on a football scholarship, but then walked on to the school's baseball team.

"My dad trained me to play college baseball, and his confidence motivated me," Andy said. "The game became easier, and I came to love it more and more."

Andy, 20, joins a group of veteran outfielders on the Colts' spring training roster.

"Of course my ultimate goal is to make the team, but I am going to spring training day by day," he said. "I have a long journey ahead of me."

Crosswhite is a 22-year-old who recently completed his collegiate career at Division III Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas. He hit .200 with a home run and nine RBIs in 22 games for Mary Hardin-Baylor this spring. Behind the plate, Crosswhite had a .978 fielding percentage.

"I knew I wanted to play pro ball, and I have been researching tryouts for the last couple of years," he said.

Crosswhite is the fourth catcher to be signed to the spring training roster.

"I know I can always learn from the other guys and always get better," he said.

Spring training begins on Monday, May 14 and lasts the entire week.

The San Angelo Colts are a member of United League Baseball who will play their 13th season in 2012. Season ticket plans are on sale now, and available at the Colts' front office at Foster Field.
