San Angelo Colts News Release

SAN ANGELO, Texas---The San Angelo Colts have signed four pitchers including, Brian Wilburn, a member of the Colts team last year. Drew Coffey, Jacob Ramos and Doug Brandt, who have all played for affiliated organizations, also joined San Angelo.

The Colts acquired Wilburn last season after he spent most of two years with Southern Illinois in the Frontier League. With the Colts, he had an ERA of 2.70 in four appearances. In Wilburn's career, opposing batters are hitting .265 against the lefty.

Colts Manager, Doc Edwards, liked what he saw from Wilburn last year:

"Brian came to us last year and was solid. I was impressed with what I saw in his start."

Coffey came from the Colorado organization after his rights were sold, by the Colts to the Rockies, in 2007. He played for Tri-City, of the Northwest League, the last two seasons. The left-hander did not pitch much in 2008; but while at Tri-City, opponents only batted .254 against one of the Colts projected starters.

Ramos was drafted by the Tigers and reached Advanced-A competition in the Florida State League. The Midland, Texas native split time between Brockton and Ottawa of the Can-Am League last year. Batters are hitting .273 in 105 career innings against Ramos.

"Jacob comes from the Tigers organization, solid out of camp.. He's a native Texan from the Midland area. He will get an opportunity to compete in the bullpen," Edwards said.

Brandt competed for Arkansas, the Double-A affiliate of the Angels, in the Texas League. Brandt was 2-4 in 60 innings pitched.

"We plan on using him [Brandt] for middle relief and a setup role," Edwards said.
