San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, TX--The Edinburg Roadrunners defied the logic that says typically 2 teams will split a doubleheader, because probability states that you're going to be unable to win 2 games in one day. Logic and probability played no part in tonight's doubleheader featuring two teams that are on different ends of the CBL's Western Division. The Edinburg Roadrunners, the league's darling team came to town and would get the first blow in thanks to a Pat O'Sullivan solo blast to left off Luis Salazar. The Colts would rally in the bottom half when their rookie duo of Lee Laskowski and Joe Mercer in their Colts debut would each pick up hits which resulted in a tie game. Turns out the tie would last into the 7th and final inning as Salazar and Eric Montoya would battle it out, with each pitcher dominating the opposing hitters. Salazar would get in trouble in the 7th after a 1 out infield single followed by a walk but had apparently gotten the final out of the inning on a pickoff throw to 2nd that had Ryan Lehr caught off the base. The call would go against the Colts, and Edinburg would pounce on their extra opportunity with Aaron Sisk delivering a double over the head of Matt Sanchez who misread the line drive and that would serve as the game winning hit to tally the final score of 3-1. Neither team had a player with more than one hit as there were just 8 hits in the game.

Game Two would feature a Colts club in search of snapping their season tying 7 game losing streak. They sent the rookie left hander Jon Gutierrez to the hill in his 1st start of the season. Jon would be the recipient of a tight plate in the 1st inning, and consequently walk 2 of the 3 batters he faced to start the game, with the other reaching after being hit by a 1-2 pitch thus loading the bases for O'Sullivan who would deliver the 2 run scoring single to stake the Runners out to a 2-0 lead. Dan Valentin would pitch brilliantly, allowing no hits through the first 4 innings. The 5th inning however was a different story as the Colts began to blast off on Dan, ripping 4 hits in the inning to tie it at 2. Edinburg would catch a huge break in the next inning however, as they'd score 4 runs in the next frame (3 unearned) to be literally handed a 6-2 advantage. A Bert Aguilar homer would knock Valentin from the hill, and the Colts would rally against Steve Wilkerson in the 7th for a run on a Matt Sancehz double that would bounce off the top of the wall, but that's all the closer the Colts would get as Steve slammed the door to get the final out and seal the deal on a game two 6-4 win that saw Edinburg sweep the double header from the San Angelo Colts to send them spiraling into their longest losing streak of the season, now at 8 games. Sanchez would go 2-4 on the night while Pat O'Sullivan was 2-4 with a pair of RBI's.
