San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, TX- The 2004 edition of the San Angelo Colts have proven themselves to be a very talented team, a team however that as of late has found ways to let close games slip through their hands. Tonight's matchup at Foster Field was no different as the Colts blasted Edinburg starter Julio Ruiz, who owned the best ERA in the league to the tune of 2 runs on 4 hits in just 3 innings of work to take a 2-0 lead after 2 innings. The Roadrunners would cut that lead in half on Aaron Sisk's 10th homer of the season, his SEVENTH against the Colts.
An un-earned run in the 5th would tie the game at 5 as that would be the score heading to the top of the 8th. San Angelo starter made a mistake and Pat O'Sullivan drilled it for his 9th gopher ball of the season to give Chad Treadaway's club a slim 3-2 advantage. In the 9th, reliever Bob Runyon ran into trouble, but saw his defense boot a perfect inning ending double play ball, and the result would be a 2 run inning for the Roadrunners to take a 5-2 lead. Tim Vasquez who'd worked a 1-2-3 8th inning, would try and get the save in the 9th, but the Colts were not going down quietly as they'd mash out 3 hits in the frame to cut the lead to 5-4. Luis Ramirez was then summoned from the Edinburg pen, and he promptly walked Diaz to put them at 1st and 2nd with 2 men out for Matt Sanchez who would end the game on a bullet line drive hit to 2nd to secure the 5-4 win for the Roadrunners.
Edinburg should feel fortunate for sneaking out the win as they'd strand a total of 11 men, while the Colts know that their 3 errors led to their demise tonight, as the 2 unearned runs scored by Edinburg would prove to be the difference for a team that has now lost a season high Nine games in a row. Roel Garza pitched 4 innings in relief to get his 1st win of the year while Henry would fall to 8-5. San Angelo would be led by Bert Aguilar's 2-4 night and Joe Mercer's 2-4 2 RBI night. Edinburg got their multi-hit evenings from Ryan Webb (2-4) and Pat O'Sullivan (2-5) including his longball.
