San Angelo Colts News Release

Edinburg, Texas --- The Edinburg Roadrunners rallied for six runs in the sixth inning, and then staved off a late charge by San Angelo to earn an 8-7 victory Thursday night at Edinburg Stadium.

Edinburg sent 11 men to the plate and had the bases loaded multiple times in the sixth. Second baseman Wilmer Pino began the inning with a triple, and third baseman Felix Molina and catcher Osiel Flores both had RBIs.

Colts' reliever Russell Johns (1-1) gave up the go-ahead run, and failed to record an out in the inning. He took the loss, allowing two runs on a hit and a pair of walks.

After watching a 5-1 lead evaporate, the Colts mounted a valiant comeback in the ninth. With their team down 8-5, catcher Davis Page and centerfielder J.J. Sherrill began the inning with a double and an RBI triple, respectively. Page scored on the triple, and Sherrill then came home on an RBI ground out by second baseman Jason Diaz.

However, Roadrunners' closer Julio Castro retired the next two batters to end the game, and earn his seventh save. Edinburg reliever Rusty Jones (4-1) earned the win, pitching 2 2/3 scoreless innings.

The win improves Edinburg to a league-best 29-18, while the loss drops San Angelo to 22-24. This four-game series concludes Friday evening at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard live on KKSA, beginning at 6:50 p.m.

The Colts' next home game is Saturday, July 14 when they host the McAllen Thunder at 7:05 p.m. It will be Glow-In-The-Dark Baseball Night, sponsored by AEP Texas. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will get a glow-in-the-dark Colts' baseball, courtesy of AEP Texas.
