San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, TX----The San Angelo Colts are seeing red and talking trash. The Colts, Keep San Angelo Beautiful, and the Concho Valley Branch of the American Red Cross will be hosting a charity softball double-header and "Keep San Angelo Beautiful" both on the same day, Saturday March 27 at Foster Field. How is that for multi-tasking a terrific community event!

The Colts are donating use of the stadium both inside and out, for dual community events that will be held at the ballpark. "We like to contribute to our community as much as we can. Donating the ballpark for a day free of charge is a great way to help out the town of San Angelo and we are proud to be part of both these events" said Colts Director of Stadium Operations Michael Clark.

In the stadium parking lot "Keep San Angelo Beautiful" will be there from 8AM-2PM collecting trash being dropped off. San Angelo residents can save money and maintain there property values by getting rid of any large trash items like furniture, appliances, and other large household items. The local landfill charges $20 a ton, so it is a big money saver to those who have a lot they need to get rid of. You will not be able to throw away regular garbage or any hazardous material. The event is the 4th annual Keep San Angelo Beautiful and 3rd at Foster Field. "The City gives us $20,000 to do this twice a year. We try to promote with an organization that is well branded, and everyone knows where Foster Field is, plus the lay out of the parking lot works out great, said James Flores Code Compliance Manager for the City of San Angelo. In 2009 they collected in excess of 296 tons at Foster Field and over 700 tons total last year.

Before they are through the Red Cross will be hosting a double-header beginning at 1PM with the gates opening at noon. The softball games will feature a game one matchup between the San Angelo's Police Department Officers vs. the Tom Green County Sheriff's Deputies. Game two will not be a dog fight but a fire fight, as the San Angelo Firefighters take on the Volunteer Firefighters. Tickets will be sold the day of the game and the entry fee will be a donation of $5 per person. "The charity emergency services softball game is a wonderful way to promote community service and raise money for a good cause. All proceeds from the game will benefit the American Red Cross office of San Angelo. The local Red Cross office responds, helps, and trains thousands of people with lifesaving programs like CPR and First Aid in our local community every year. The Red Cross is not a government agency, so we do not receive any type of federal, state, or local government funding; we rely strictly on community donations to stay afloat" said Jose Rivera Red Cross Community and Resource Development Manager. The American Red Cross in San Angelo assisted 138 local families in 2008, and trained over 1,100 local people in CPR and First Aid in 2009. For more information on the day's events, you may contact the American Red Cross at 325-716-8379 or San Angelo Colts Director of Community Relations Ira Liebman at 325-942-6587.
