San Angelo Colts News Release

Harlingen, Texas --- The Colts scored seven runs early and never looked back, beating the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, 8-1, Saturday night at Harlingen Field.

San Angelo took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, and then knocked WhiteWings' starter Nate Johnson out of the ballgame with five more runs in the second. Johnson (0-1) took the loss, surrendering seven runs on as many hits in just 1 1/3 innings.

Third baseman Steve Rinaudo, right fielder Mike Mobbs, first baseman Chris Caves, centerfielder Oscar Garcia, and shortstop Danny Hernandez each scored for the Colts in the second inning.

Working with a big lead after just two innings, Colts' starter Demetrius Banks (1-0) was terrific. He allowed a run on five hits and struck out four through seven innings for the win. Banks has not lost a game since joining the Colts late last season.

Rio Grande Valley's relief pitching was solid, allowing a run in 7 2/3 innings. The lone run for San Angelo in that time was courtesy of a solo homer by Caves. It was his first, as well as the Colts' first home run of the season.

Caves finished the night 2-for-4, and was one of five Colts' players with multiple hits.

The Colts will go for the sweep in the series finale Sunday at 7:05 p.m. Colts righty Derek Christensen will face WhiteWings righthander Bobby O'Neill. The game can be heard live on 1260 KKSA beginning at 6:50 p.m.

San Angelo's home opener at Foster Field is scheduled for Tuesday, May 28, at 7:05 p.m., when the Colts will host the Edinburg Roadrunners. It will be a $2 Tuesday, sponsored by Budweiser. All general admission tickets, longneck beers, hot dogs, and popcorn are just $2, courtesy of Budweiser.
