Colts Bring Back Former Outfield Standout

San Angelo, Texas----San Angelo brings back former outfield standout Jose Torres. Torres a six year pro was originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 39th round in the 2004 Draft. Jose joined the Colts late in 2007. In 2008 he had the best year of his career, hitting .345 with 15 homeruns and 51 RBIs, stealing 27 bases in 79 games. Jose also led the league that season in both walks (68) and on base percentage (.501), as well as finishing second in runs scored (96). Jose spent the 2009 season with Shreveport.

The Colts have also signed two local products from Angelo State University in the battery of catcher Trey Carter and right-handed pitcher Kenny Elkind. Carter is currently an ASU assistant coach. The former Angelo State University catching standout holds the ASU record for walks (52), is third in homeruns (11), and fifth in RBIs (64) in a single season.

Righty Kenny Elkind spent last year with the Colts, his first season as a pro sporting a 3-2 record and a 3.27 ERA. Elkind also an ASU standout is Angelo State's all-time win leader (17) and holds the record for average strikeouts per nine innings (9.00) in a season.

The Colts also added another outfielder acquiring Adam Hale from Southern Illinois. Hale a native Texan from Houston, played ball at Rice University. There are several similarities between the two outfield signees, with both players not only having Texas connections and being outfielders, but they also spent time in Shreveport. Hale spent time the year before Torres was there in 2008. Last season Adam split time between two leagues spending time in both the American Association and Frontier League.
