Colorado Tops Amarillo

Amarillo, TX 1/24/10 - The Amarillo Gorillas could not fight off the Colorado attack Sunday, falling 6-2.

Amarillo earned the game's first goal, as forward Jason Chafe deflected a Neil Smith shot for his fifth goal on the year at the 5:57 mark. Colorado found the twine three straight times after the Gorillas goal beginning at the 6:29 mark. Adam Hogg, Jim Jackson, and Ryan Tobler all scored for the Eagles. Jason Chafe had an opportunity to pull the Gorillas within one late in the frame with a breakaway chance, but was denied by Colorado netminder Mike Mole. Colorado 3 Amarillo 1 after one period.

The lone goal of the second period between the two clubs was scored by Colorado forward Brett Lutes at the 5:56 mark. Gorillas goaltender Mike Brown was pulled at that point for Tuomas Lohtander who made 11 saves in the period. Colorado 4 Amarillo 1.

Colorado tacked on an additional marker in the third while Gorillas forward Joe Guenther scored from the near side of the net at the 9:04 mark. Final score Colorado 6 Amarillo 2.

After garnering a first period assist, defenseman Neil Smith is currently riding a 3-game point streak (his career longest through two seasons in a Gorillas uniform)...Gorillas goaltender Tuomas Lohtander has appeared in 7 of Amarillo's last 11 contests...Joe Guenther has 3 points over his last 2 games.

Amarillo will finish their three-game series with Colorado this Wednesday, January 27th from the "Centennial State". The game broadcast will start at 7:55pm CST and can be followed on 1440 AM ESPN Radio and CHL-TV. Fans will have an opportunity to win tickets to the circus during the second period of the game broadcast by answering a trivia question on the Gorillas' Facebook page.
