Colorado Eagles News Release
RAPID CITY, SD. - Darryl Bootland scored a pair of third period goals, while Casey Pierro-Zabotel stuffed home the game-winner just 13 seconds into overtime to power the Eagles to a 3-2 victory over the Rapid City Rush on Wednesday.
Rapid City grabbed the game's first goal at the 14:41 mark of the first period when forward Brett Perlini launched a wrister from the left circle that beat Eagles goaltender Nathan Lieuwen to give the Rush the 1-0 lead.
The Rush would extend their advantage in the second period when a turnover at the Eagles blue line led to a breakaway for forward Hunter Fejes, who would light the lamp with a wrist shot from the circle to make it 2-0 Rapid City at the 14:21 mark of the middle frame.
Colorado would forge a rally that would begin 3:15 into the third period when forward Ryan Harrison led a 2-on-1 shorthanded rush down the ice, feeding Bootland with a cross-slot pass that Bootland would wire past Rush goaltender Adam Morrison to cut the Rapid City lead to 2-1.
Less than five minutes later, Bootland would deflect a shot from the point from defenseman Teigan Zahn into the net, knotting the game at 2-2.
With 60 minutes unable to decide a winner, the Eagles and Rush headed to a sudden-death, 3-on-3 overtime. Colorado would win the opening draw and forward Jesse Mychan would generate a quick chance from the left circle, which was turned aside by Morrison. Pierro-Zabotel lunged for the rebound on top of the crease and lifted a backhand shot past Morrison to give the Eagles the 3-2 victory.
Colorado registered a season-high 45 shots on goal in the contest, while Lieuwen claimed his fifth win of the season in net.
The Eagles return home to take on the Rapid City Rush on Friday, November 25th at 7:05pm MT.
