Colorado Crush News Release
Fort Collins, CO-The Colorado Ice have beaten the Wyoming Cavalry for the third time in the 2012 season 48-33. This win leaves the Ice undefeated at home and in the 4 games series against the Cavalry.
QB David Knighton (#5) started off the Ice scoring relatively early in the first quarter with a carry for a touchdown. Both teams seemed to slowly get their bearings and the scoreboard remained quiet. With three minutes remaining, the Cavalry attempted a field goal but without success. The Cavalry struck some luck as they intercepted an Ice pass and carried it in for a touchdown. The Ice defense managed to block the PAT. The first quarter ended with the Ice and Cavalry going neck and neck 7-6.
The second quarter began with a 5 yard penalty on the Cavalry, moving the Ice even closer to the end zone. After battling the Cavalry defense, Knighton (#5) threw a bomb to WR Jessie Poku (#85) for the Ice's second touchdown of the game. The Cavalry struggled to move down the field as the Ice's tenacious defense continued to hold them off. The Cavalry managed a recovery on an Ice fumble; however they could not turn that into a touchdown. After calling a timeout to get the Ice back on track, Knighton (#5) threw to WR Duane Brooks (#2) to add another touchdown to their score. It looked as though the Ice would hold the Cavalry scoreless in the second quarter but with 6 seconds left they managed to score a touchdown.
Knighton (#5) threw to WR Mark Henderson (#4) for a touchdown to start off the third quarter, bringing the score to 27-13. After a nearly 7 minute Cavalry possession DB Josh Morris (#21) intercepted a Cavalry toss. The Cavalry defense finally showed up to the game and refused to let the Ice down the field. The Ice turned to rookie kicker Aric Goodman (#9) for a field goal but was unsuccessful.
The Cavalry offense started off the fourth quarter with a touchdown, determined to beat the Ice. The Ice brought in Goodman (#9) but was unsuccessful yet again with the field goal. The Ice seemed to succumb to the Cavalry's hunger for their first win against the Ice this season. The Cavalry closed the gap with another touchdown, bringing them 1 point within the lead. A successful 2 point conversion left them tied with the Ice with less than 7 minutes left in the game. The Ice quickly came back with a touchdown by RB Tobias Robinson (#22) just two minutes later. Robinson (#22) was on fire as he scored another touchdown to follow up his previous and ensure a win over the Cavalry. A 2 point conversion and an impressive interception for touchdown by DB Kyle Theret (#17) ended their scoring for the game. The Ice defense allowed to Cavalry to score once more bringing the final score to 48-33.
Runza Player of the Week is DL Antoine Carter (#44) for his defensive efforts.
The Colorado Ice will take on the Nebraska Danger next week on May 5th, 2012. Tickets for this game are still available and can be purchased by contacting the Ice office at (970) 472-0128.
