Colorado Ice Outlast the Wyoming Cavalry
Fort Collins, CO - The Colorado Ice Professional Indoor Football team added another win to their record as they beat the Wyoming Cavalry 42-35.
This game marked the second of four matchups between the Ice and the Cavalry this season. The Ice were able to reel out their second victory over the Cavalry on the backs of a strong performance by their offensive line and an equally impressive performance by their opportunistic defense.
In a back and forth battle during the first quarter, the Ice were able to match the Cavalry with two touchdowns. RB Tobias Robinson (#22) slid in from 1 yard out to put the Ice on the scoreboard. A 4 yard hookup from QB David Knighton (#5) to WR Jeremy Sanders (#8) and rookie kicking sensation Aric Goodman (#9) following through with both PATs added to the Ice's score to leave them even with the Cavalry going into the second quarter.
The Ice ran wild in the second quarter, Sanders (#8) ducked in for a 1 yard touchdown and RB Andre Harris (#6) had a 22 yard touchdown to put the Ice in the lead. Knighton (#5) ran the ball from 9 yards out widening the gap between the Cavalry and the Ice.
The Ice's offense were unable to carry over their momentum from halftime. Matching the Cavalry with one touchdown on a 10 yard strike from Knighton (#5) to WR Mark Henderson (#4) completed the final points of the game for the Ice.
Defense was a strong theme in the fourth quarter as a nearly 8 minute Cavalry drive ended when DL Chris Bradwell (#93) intercepted the ball. The Ice never let Wyoming back in the game to take the lead.
The Colorado Ice offensive line was named Runza Players of the Week for allowing the offensive backfield to score 4 touchdowns and gain 146 yards on 29 carries.
The Ice will take on the New Mexico Stars in Albuquerque, New Mexico next Saturday, April 14, 2012.
