Colorado Mammoth News Release
DENVER - The Colorado Mammoth dropped to 6-6 on the season following a road loss at Philadelphia Saturday night. The Wings improved their record to 5-7 on the year and kept their playoff hopes alive with the 17-13 victory.
Wings forward Merrick Thomson gave the home team an early lead just 33 seconds into the game, and teammate Mat Giles scored 2:39 later to make the score 2-0. Colorado goals by Brian Langtry and Gavin Prout evened the score at 2-2 at the 11:07 mark of a tight first quarter. By the time the first quarter drew to a close, the game was tied at four.
The Mammoth took their first and only lead of the game 31 seconds into the second quarter when forward Chris Gill drew rope to made the score 5-4. Philadelphia followed, however, with four unanswered scores - by four different players - to end the first half with an 8-4 lead.
The two teams spent the third quarter alternating goals, bringing the score to 11-8 entering the fourth period. Mammoth forward Gary Rosyski scored the first two goals of the fourth to pull Colorado within one, but the Wings responded with another streak of four unanswered goals by four different scorers to make the score 15-10. The Wings would not relinquish that lead on their way to the 17-13 final.
Mammoth forward and team captain, Gavin Prout led the Mammoth with three goals and four assists. Additionally, Brian Langtry (2 goals, 5 assists) and Jed Prossner (1 goal, 6 assists) each tallied seven-point nights for Colorado. Mammoth net minder, Andrew Leyshon faced 62 shots on the night, making 45 saves.
Philadelphia was led by Athan Iannucci's four goals and three assists. Merrick Thompson chipped in with a hat-trick and 2 assists. Wings transition player Geoff Snider scored two goals, hustled to 13 loose balls and won an incredible 25-of-30 face-offs on the night.
Colorado returns home next Friday, April 3, when the Rochester Knighthawks visit Pepsi Center for BLACKOUT Night and Party Pack Night.
