THE GAME:
The Colorado Crush head out for their second straight road playoff game when they travel to San Jose to face the SaberCats on Saturday, July 7th at 1:00 p.m. MT on ESPN.
This marks the third consecutive year in which the Crush have played in the Divisional Round of the AFL playoffs. Colorado is 1-1 all-time in Divisional Round games.
Colorado has never beaten San Jose in the regular season (0-6 all-time) and has dropped all four games played at the HP Pavilion. The Crush's only win versus the SaberCats came during the 2005 playoffs in the Divisional Round (56-48 on May 2, 2005). In their six losses to San Jose, Colorado has lost by an average of 26.1 points, including a 72-44 defeat this season on April 6th.
The Crush-SaberCats match-up will pit two of the AFL's most successful coaches against one other- Mike Dailey for Colorado and Darren Arbet for San Jose. Dailey and Arbet stand fourth and fifth respectively in all-time career wins in league history.
The Crush's 49-42 Wild Card win last week against Kansas City snapped a four-game losing streak for Colorado and was the team's first road victory this year when they lost the turnover battle. Turnovers have been key all season for the Crush going a perfect 6-0 when having a positive turnover margin and 2-8 when losing that fight.
The top seeded San Jose SaberCats enter Saturday's contest as Western Division champions and winners of 10 straight games. The SaberCats also have won 14 straight regular season home games, tying their own record for the
second-longest stretch in AFL history and this season became the first American Conference team to go undefeated at home since the AFL adopted the 16-game schedule in 2003. San Jose's last loss at HP Pavilion came in the Conference Championship game against the Chicago Rush 56-59 (6/3/06). In his career versus the Crush, SaberCats' QB Mark Grieb has thrown 42 touchdowns on 161-of-213 passing (80%) for 2,115 yards and only three interceptions.

HEAD COACHES:
MIKE DAILIEY, Colorado (108-72, 11th Year): Mike Dailey enters his fourth season in Colorado and 11th as head coach in the AFL, after becoming the Crush's second head coach on June 26, 2003. Dailey joined the Crush following 13 seasons in the Albany/Indiana Firebirds organization, including the final seven as head coach.
One of the most successful and well-respected coaches in AFL history, Dailey's teams have compiled an overall record of 108-72 record, a winning percentage of 60.0. His teams have also made eight postseason appearances and he has won five division titles and two championships. Following the Crush's 44-40 victory over Kansas City on March 10, 2007, Dailey became only the fourth head coach in AFL history to surpass the 100 win mark. He currently stands as the league fourth all-time winningest coach.
In his first season in Colorado, Dailey helped guide the Crush to the largest turnaround in AFL history, inheriting a 2-14 team and leading them to an 11-5 record in 2004. In 1999, Dailey led the Albany Firebirds to their only ArenaBowl championship and was named AFL Coach of the Year. Before being named head coach of the Firebirds in 1997, Dailey served as an assistant in Albany for five seasons.
Dailey began his AFL coaching career with the Washington Commandos where he served as offensive/defensive line coach in 1990. He joined the Firebirds organization in the same capacity in 1991.
Prior to the AFL, Dailey worked as an assistant coach at Towson State University and was the offensive coordinator at Montgomery College-Rockville (Md.). Dailey got his start in coaching in 1981 as a 22-year-old assistant at Georgetown Prep High School in Rockville, Md. The move to coaching followed a semi-pro football career in the Washington D.C. area.

DARREN ARBET, San Jose (106-45, 9th Year): Two-time Arena Football League Coach of the Year and ArenaBowl champion Darren Arbet enters his ninth season as head coach of the San Jose SaberCats and his second as the club's general manager.
Last season Arbet guided the SaberCats to their seventh straight winning season and playoff appearance by going 10-6, the sixth time in his eight seasons the team has posted a double-digit regular season win total. The team also captured its fifth Western Division title under Arbet (sixth overall) and advanced to the semifinal round of the playoffs for the sixth time in the last seven seasons.
Arbet enters the 2007 campaign with 93 career wins, the fifth-most in AFL history, and his .689 overall winning percentage is the third-highest among coaches who have been involved in at least 25 games. Arbet has also compiled the third-best postseason winning percentage (.667) and is one of just six head coaches in league history to amass 10 playoff victories.
Under the direction of Arbet San Jose has enjoyed unmatched success vaulting the franchise to elite status in the AFL. Since the start of the 2000 season, Arbet's second as head coach, the SaberCats have claimed two ArenaBowl championships (2002, 2004), compiled the most regular season wins (77), the second-most playoff wins (10) and have averaged nearly 12 victories a season.
In addition, the club has set league records for regular season wins in a season (13 in 2002), overall wins in a season (16 in 2002), consecutive regular season wins in a season (12 in 2002), regular season wins to end a season (11 in 2000) and the longest regular season win streak (15 in 2000-01).
Arbet's ties to the AFL date back to the late 1980s when he played two seasons as a fullback/linebacker with the Los Angeles Cobras (1988) and Maryland Commandos (1989) before a wrist injury that required three surgeries ended his career. During his playing days, Arbet lined up against former Philadelphia head coach Michael Trigg, who was a quarterback with the Detroit Drive, and Georgia Force offensive coordinator Steve Thonn, who played WR/DB with the Chicago Bruisers.
LAST TIME THESE TEAMS MET:
SAN JOSE (4/6/07) - San Jose QB Mark Grieb and the SaberCats were the picture of efficiency in handing the Colorado Crush their third lost of the season with a 72-44 victory Friday night. Greib, who was named the contest's Offensive Player of the Game, completed 33-of-40 passes (83%) for 352 yards and seven touchdowns with one interception. Offensively, the SaberCats scored on 11 of their 14 possessions, including ten straight drives to open the game.
For Colorado, WR Brad Pyatt had his best game of the season recording a game-high 188 receiving yards and three touchdowns on seven catches. The Crush defense was paced by DB Rashad Floyd, who entered the game as the AFL's leading tackler, collared 14.5 stops and an interception.
Colorado scored on a 20-yard Jason Ball field goal on the Crush's opening drive to take an early 3-0 lead. San Jose would answer scoring the next 28 straight points to take control of the game and never look back.
The SaberCat defense would do their part as well forcing two Crush interceptions and causing two fumbles as well as two turnovers on downs. QB John Dutton was replaced by rookie Brandon Kirsch to being the fourth quarter for Colorado. Kirsch, in his first AFL action under center, finished the game tossing two touchdowns for 91 yards on 3-of-5 passing with an interception.
CRUSH LAST WEEK:
KANSAS CITY (6/30/07) - The sixth seeded Colorado Crush and their defense, which played strong the entire game, came up with a huge play as time expired to hold the third seeded Kansas City Brigade out of the end zone and capture a 49-42 victory in the Wild Card Round of the AFL playoffs. The Crush entered the game on a four-game losing skid to end the regular season, but with renewed postseason hopes Colorado will travel to San Jose next Saturday to face the SaberCats in the Divisional Round. The win was also the Crush's third over the Brigade this season.
Crush DB Rashad Floyd finished with a game-high 14 tackles, while DB Delvin Hughley contributed with nine tackles and one interception. On offense for Colorado, WR Damian Harrell ended with a game-high tying three touchdown on eight receptions for 106 yards. Kansas City QB Raymond Philyaw threw for 321 yards on 36-of-52 passes with four touchdowns and one interception. Brigade WR Anthony Hines chipped in 15 catches for 120 yards and three scores.
Colorado jumped out to an early 13-0 lead after WR Brad Pyatt hauled in a 38-yard touchdown strike on the game's first play and following a Hughley interception. The turnover was capitalized by the Crush as FB Robert Thomas rushed in from one-yard out.
Both team traded scores throughout the rest of the first quarter and beginning of the second period before Brigade DB Isaiah Trufant intercepted a John Dutton pass leading to Kansas City's first lead of the game on a Hines 7-yard touchdown reception to put the Brigade up 28-23. Following another Colorado turnover on a fumble, Kansas City looked to end the first half up by double digits and would receive the ball to start the second half and in great position. K Gary Kral missed a 19-yard field goal as time expired at the break with the Brigade only up five points.
Kansas City squandered another opportunity as Kral missed another field goal, this time again from 19-yards out, on the Brigade's first possession of the third quarter. Colorado jumped on the chance and answered as Harrell scored on a 21-yard pass from Dutton. The Crush defense came away with their third straight stop, this time forcing a four-and-out of Kansas City to hold them scoreless in the third session.
The Brigade slowly chipped away at the Crush lead in the fourth quarter as each team would trade scores, but Colorado K Jason Ball missed two PATs to bring the game within a one possession contest. Colorado looked again to have a hold on the game after a K.C. fumble but DB Kenny McEntyre intercepted Dutton and returned it 38 yards for a touchdown to knot the score at 42-42 with 4:57 remaining. Harrell's 4-yard touchdown reception with 2:12 proved to be enough as the Crush defense stood strong again to lift the team to the next round of the playoffs.
THINGS TO WATCH:
JUST LIKE KYLE:
While teammate OL Kyle Moore-Brown continues his AFL record for consecutive games played, QB John Dutton has strung together an impressive streak of his own.
Since the 2004 season, Dutton along with San Jose QB Mark Grieb have started the most consecutive regular season games under center in the AFL.

UP FOR GRABS:
This season the Crush secondary made a huge impact in the team's overall success. The Colorado defense has set a new club single-season record for interceptions with 20, which ranked tied-fifth in the AFL in that category. DB Rashad Floyd has hauled in nine picks, while DB Chris Angel has seven interceptions, which ranks tied third and tied-seventh in the AFL respectively (the team's individual single-season record is 10- Floyd in 2006).

YOUNG BLOOD:
The Colorado Crush took the field in Week 1 with four rookies on their active roster. Not since head coach Mike Dailey's arrival to Colorado in 2004 has he had that many first-year players on his Crush active roster to begin a season.
The Crush currently have six rookies on their active roster with four of those players starting.
BUILDING A WINNING TRADITION:
The Crush are among the winningest teams in the AFL regular season since head coach Mike Dailey's arrival, having tied for the league's best record in 2004 (11-5) and finishing with the American Conference's top seed in 2005 (10-6) and 2006 (11-5).

ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH:
After finishing their inaugural season 0-8 at home, the Crush are now 26-8 under Mike Dailey (2-1 in the postseason) at Pepsi Center. Two of the eight losses consist of a field goal in overtime (42-45) vs. Indiana in 2004 and a 51-48 Chicago win in 2005 on a field goal with three seconds remaining.
LOCAL TIES:
This season the Crush have found a lot of good-young talent right in their back yard. Here is a list of players that have Colorado ties:
- DL QUINN DORSEY attended Manual High School in Denver.
- FB/LB ANTHONY DUNN attended Centauri High School in Manassa, CO and later played at the University of Northern Colorado.
- OL BRETT HUYSER played his collegiate football at the Air Force Academy.
- WR BRAD PYATT has played football at all three levels of his career in Colorado (Arvada West High School, Northern Colorado and the Crush).
HE KEEPS GOING & GOING & GOING....:
A true AFL Ironman, Kyle Moore-Brown is in his 13th season in the league and has never missed a game. ArenaBowl XIX marked his AFL record 176th consecutive start. The first 139 all came with the Firebirds organization before he signed with the Crush prior to the 2004 season. Kyle's career milestone of 200 came against the New York Dragons on April 15, 2007.

ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO AN END:
WR Damian Harrell had caught a touchdown pass in an AFL record 78 straight regular season games, including all 75 games as a member of the Crush, until his miraculous streak was broken on June 4 at Utah.
That streak was also the longest active streak of consecutive games scoring a TD. He broke the record for consecutive games with a receiving touchdown on 4/3/05 in the win over Las Vegas and set the mark consecutive games with a TD on 3/4/07 vs. Grand Rapids. Harrell's streak began with the Toronto Phantoms vs. Carolina on 7/4/02.

STEEL CURTAIN:
After allowing 13 sacks in 2003 (12 on Dutton), the Crush pass protection has been stellar under head coach Mike Dailey.
The team allowed just four sacks in 2004, and none after Week 6. In 2005, Colorado allowed just six sacks, while holding 10 opponents sackless on the year.
Since 2004, the Crush have allowed just 27 sacks in their last 64 regular season games (total of 2,830 plays).
IT'S NOT OVER TILL IT'S OVER:
Since head coach Mike Dailey has arrived in Colorado in 2004, the Crush have claimed victory in the final minute of the game in seven contests.

- vs. Georgia (6/12)- K Clay Rush connects on a 20-yard field goal as time expires to give the Crush a 56-48 victory in ArenaBowl XIX.
2006
- vs. Chicago (1/29)- QB John Dutton hits WR Damian Harrell for a touchdown with one second remaining as the Crush go on to win 65-56.
- at Georgia (2/5)- QB John Dutton finds WR Damian Harrell for a 13-yard touchdown with 45 seconds left to lift Colorado to a 61-59 victory.
2007
- vs. Nashville (4/1)- Down by seven points (41-48) with 50 seconds left, Crush FB/LB Robert Thomas blocks a Kats 30-yard field goal attempt as Colorado scores four plays later to tie the game 48-48. Then Crush DB Chris Angel intercepts a Nashville pass with 32 seconds left and returns it to the Kats one-yard line. Thomas rushes in with six seconds remaining to lift Colorado to a 55-48 victory.
