LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Avengers (10-7) used five turnovers and a 23-0 second quarter to end the Utah Blaze (8-9) season in front of 13,066 fans at STAPLES Center on Monday night. The Blaze are 0-2 in postseason play during the franchise's existence.
"It is tough to overcome turnovers especially in the postseason," said Blaze head coach/general manager DANNY WHITE. "Give credit to Los Angeles. They played very well."
The Avengers scored first when Offensive Player of the Game, QB SONNY CUMBIE hit WR ROB TURNER on a 21-yard pass with 11:41 left in the first quarter. The Blaze answered when QB JOE GERMAINE found WR TOM PACE on a six-yard touchdown to even the score at 7-7.
The two teams added another score each and finished the first quarter tied 14-14. The Avengers then outscored the Blaze 23-0 in the second quarter and ended the first half up 37-14.
