Hartford Colonials News Release

Notes from Hartford Colonials training camp practice Monday, August 23

GARAGE DAYS: The Colonials went through a walk-through practice Monday morning, utilizing the spacious parking garage at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cromwell. In the afternoon, the players practiced for two hours in damp and chilly conditions at Sage Park in Berlin. Practice concluded with the 2-minute offense.

PLAY(S) OF THE DAY: Quarterback Ryan Perrilloux threw three consecutive touchdown passes during a red zone drill, connecting twice with Travis Shelton and once with Dicky Lyons. All three passes were perfectly thrown. First, Perrilloux rolled to his right and threw on the run to Shelton in the corner of the end zone. Perrilloux was then flushed out of the pocket when he found Lyons in the back of the end zone. On his final TD pass, Perrilloux took a few steps back and lobbed a pas to Shelton in the right corner.

PICK CITY: Head Coach Chris Palmer was pleased the defense made three interceptions. In what was the result of either a misread by the quarterback or a bad route by the receiver, cornerback Tony Tiller picked of a pass and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown. Linebacker Danny Lansanah made a jugging interception along the sideline. Safety Ben Hannula had the other interception.

ON THE MARKEE: The Colonials signed wide receiver Markee White, fresh off his four-touchdown performance with the Spokane Shock in Friday's 69-57 victory over the Tampa Bay Storm in Arena Bowl XXIII. White's four TD receptions were all in the second quarter. His second one made SportsCenter's Top 10 plays that night. He finished with a team-high nine receptions, earning offensive player of the game honors.

OTHER ROSTER MOVES: The Colonials beefed up the offensive line by signing Ryan Cave (6-foot-4, 349 pounds) and Vince Vance (6-6, 315). Vance, a three-year starter at Georgia, was recently released by the Bears. Earlier this year he worked with Hall of Fame offensive lineman Jackie Slater. Cave played at Hampton University in Virginia. The Colonials also signed running back Tory Harrison (Southern Miss) and released RB Shannon Woods.

HIGH ENOUGH, LONG ENOUGH: Kicker Taylor Mehlhaff nailed a 47-yard field goal to close out a scoring drive during the two-minute offense.

COACH PALMER SAYS: "We had a good practice. The heavy rain held off, we worked on the two-minute drive, which was fine. The defense got a turnover with the second group. When you get that kind of work on a nice cool day like today, it's fun."

WET AND WINDY: Players practiced in a steady drizzle. The temperature at the start of practice was 67 degrees, but the breezy conditions made it feel like early November.

THE WEEK AHEAD: The Colonials will practice twice on Tuesday and Wednesday at Sage Field in Berlin. Practices are 9-11 am and 3-5 pm both days. The team will be in full pads Tuesday afternoon. Wednesday's morning session will be a walk-though with no pads. All practices are open to public with free admission.
