Hartford Colonials News Release
EAST HARTFORD, CT - June 1, 2011 - Players will showcase their football skills and athleticism for the Hartford Colonials coaching staff at an open tryout Saturday, June 4, at Rosek-Skubel Stadium in the Miller-Fillback Sports Complex in Middletown, CT.
Colonials head coach Jerry Glanville and his assistants will conduct the workout camp for free agents hoping to sign a contract with the United Football League team. The event is open to the public with free admission.
"The fans will see players from the Steelers, the Raiders, and other players who have been in the NFL with Super Bowl teams," Glanville said.
Fans can also get a glimpse at quarterbacks Colt Brennan and Jerrod Johnson as both will be on hand to watch the tryouts. Brennan holds the NCAA single-season record with 58 touchdown passes as a junior at Hawaii in 2006. Johnson, the No. 1 overall pick by the Colonials in the 2011 UFL Draft, is the all-time leading passer in Texas A&M history.
Tryouts will commence at 10:15 am and conclude approximately 2 pm. Participants will run the 40-yard dash and take part in a series of drills. Players can register on site between 8-10 a.m. There is a non-refundable $60 registration fee in cash or money order. No checks or credit cards will be accepted.
The workout camp is the final of three open tryouts for the Colonials, who signed three players from the first two tryouts in Houston on May 14 and in the Atlanta area May 21.
The Colonials play an eight-game schedule against teams from Las Vegas, Omaha, Sacramento and Virginia starting in August. For more information, please visit www.hartfordcolonials.com
