Colonials Cut off by Jackals 8-7

Little Falls, NJ - The Pittsfield Colonials suffered their fifth consecutive loss, going down 8-7 in ten innings to the New Jersey Jackals at Yogi Berra Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

The Jackals scored the game's winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning on a wild pitch by Colonials' reliever Shannon Sprouse, scoring Jordan Newton (1-for-1, 2B, R) from third base who laced a pinch-hit double to lead off the inning for New Jersey.

Colonials' starting pitcher Chance Corgan ended his outing with a no-decision after four and one-third innings of work, giving-up three runs on three hits, five walks and two strike-outs. Sprouse (0-1) suffered the loss pitching an inning and two-thirds, allowing one run on one hit, one walk and a wild pitch.

Pittsfield's Dan Carte (3-for-5, HR, 3 RBI) belted his second home run of the season and drove in three runs, while third baseman Danny Bomback (4-for-5, 2R) became the first Colonials hitter in history to record a four hit game. Angel Molina (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI) doubled and drove in a pair of RBIs for the visitors in the effort.

Jackals' starter Dan Griffin also took a no-decision, lasting five and one-third innings and allowing three runs on nine hits, two walks, and four strike-outs. Edward Rodriguez (2-1) earned the win pitching a scoreless tenth inning.

Jackals Abraham Nunez (2-for-2, 2 RBI, 3BB), Jacob Butler (1-for-5, 2B, 2 RBI), and Shawn Riggans (2-for-4, 2 RBI) each drove in a pair of runs for New Jersey. First baseman Jabe Bergeron (1-for-4, HR) belted a solo home run for the home team.

The Colonials will close out the three game series with the Jackals on Thursday night at 7pm when right-hander Miguel Flores takes the ball for Pittsfield against New Jersey's Nick Asselin (1-1).
