The Hartford Colonials of the United Football League today donated 1,269 servings of cereal toward a Cereal Drive sponsored by Connecticut Children's Medical Center and the Nursing Practice Council.

Colonials cheerleader Heather Toohey, a volunteer at Connecticut Children's, coordinated the team's effort in collecting 88 boxes of cereal at the cheerleading final auditions May 21. Five cheerleaders and quarterbacks Jerrod Johnson and Colt Brennan made the presentation in the One World Café at Connecticut Children's.

"Thank you for helping us kick start our campaign to raise cereal for all the children in Connecticut," said RN Kitty Walker, co-chairman of the drive and the Nursing Practice Council. "Heather kind of brought it to life. It was great to partner with the community and partner with some organizations in the community."

Connecticut Children's is one of six hospitals around the country in a national competition to see which one can raise the most servings of cereal for their community. The drive is June 3-10. The other participating hospitals: Akron Children's Hospital in Ohio; Children's Hospital & Medical Center in Omaha, Neb.; Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.; The Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit; Kaleida Health in Buffalo, N.Y.
