Albany Firebirds News Release
Albany, N.Y., January 11, 2005 â Travis Coleman, who was an arenafootball2 rookie with the Albany Conquest during their 2004 season, signed with the Arena Football League's Chicago Rush on Monday.
"Travis has tremendous talent and I wish him the best," said Albany Conquest Head Coach Richard Davis. "His advancement to the Arena Football League is evidence that Albany is a great market for players to display their abilities and it affirms af2's mission for player development."
Coleman, 6-foot-0, 193-pounds (Hampton University), played in 15 games as a defensive specialist with the Conquest last season and signed as a wide receiver/defensive back with the Rush.
Coleman finished third in af2 last season with 33 passes defended. He tied for the team lead with four interceptions and was second on the Conquest with 66 tackles. Coleman was named the ADT Defensive Player of the Game in five of the Conquest's 16 games.
Coleman played in seven games for the Chicago Bears in 2002 and also spent time in training camps with the Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts prior to the 2003 NFL season.
Other team notes:
Conquest kicker Vinny Cirrincione does well in workout with Buffalo Bills
Vinny Cirrincione, a rookie af2 kicker with the Albany Conquest in 2004, worked out with the Buffalo Bills in Orchard Park on Tuesday. Cirrincione was evaluated in both kickoffs and field goals, converting 11-of-12 field goals that ranged in distance from 33 to 53-yards. His agent Jeff Courtney indicated that he put himself in a good position for the future. "They (Buffalo Bills) said he has a strong leg and that he is someone who could end up there in the future," said Courtney. "He did a good job and his longest successful field goal attempt was 53-yards. He still may very well be kicking for the Conquest this year. Vinny would like that. He kicked well in Albany last year and he likes the fans and the organization."
Rashon Burns waived by New York Dragons
Two-year Albany Conquest veteran and arenafootball2's sixth leading rusher in 2004, Rashon Burns, who was signed by Arena Football League's New York Dragons in mid-October was waived by the Dragons on Sunday.
The Albany Conquest, a proud member of the Arena Football family, are entering their fourth season competing in arenafootball2 and play their home opener against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers on Apr. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Pepsi Arena.
