Charlotte Eagles News Release
The United Soccer Leagues announced yesterday the first set of weekly honors for the 2004 season. Charlotte Eagles veteran forward and Charlotte Native Jacob Coggins was named "Player of the Week" for the Pro Soccer League (PSL). Coggins was chosen after his two goals and one assist, leading the Charlotte Eagles to a 3-0 victory over Pittsburgh in the season opener.
Jacob Coggins, a graduate of Independence High School is in his 5th season with the Eagles. Coggins used his size and strength to get a head on the ball for both goals Friday night. Eagles Head Coach Mark Steffens commented on Jacob's role with the team:
"Jacob is a big guy and he's got some speed. He earned a starting position with his play through the preseason, and seems to make things happen when he is on the field."
