Alaska Aces News Release

RAPID CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA - Tim Coffman had a hat trick, and goaltender Kevin Carr made 22 saves to spark the Alaska Aces past the Rapid City Rush 5-3 Saturday at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

The win gives Alaska a split of the two game series in Rapid City.

The Aces opened the scoring at the 16:29 mark of the first period. Coffman, playing in his 201st ECHL game, zipped the puck up the left wing to Tommy Olczyk. Olczyk, after gaining the Rapid City blue line, returned the puck to Coffman, who blew a wrister past Rush goaltender Adam Morrison, low stick-side. It was Coffman's 24th goal of the season, as he continues to add to his career high.

Shots after one period: Aces 14, Rush 8.

An evenly-played second period featured just one goal. Rush captain and former Alaska Aces forward Ryan Walters, one night after victimizing his old team with a shorthanded game-winning goal Friday night, struck unassisted on a soft backhand from the right circle that eluded Carr. The goal was Walters' 27th of the season, a career high.

Each team managed 10 shots in the second period for a two-period total of 24 for Alaska, 18 for Rapid City.

Plenty of offense in the third period. Charlie Sampair started the flow

with his second career goal at 1:22. Helpers to Shattock and Moynihan.

Then the curtain went up for the Tim Coffman Show. He scored his second goal of the game, 25th of the season at 3:32, assisted by Tarasuk and Wallace. Coffman followed that up with his hat trick, his 26th goal of the season at 4:13. That made it 4-3 Alaska.

After a Riley Weselowski goal at 17:46 for Rapid City, Steve Tarasuk got credit for an Aces empty net goal, as he made his way toward an open net and a rush defender threw his stick at the puck for an

automatic goal.

Final shots were 34-25 Alaska.

The Aces were 1-3 on the power play, the Rush 0-2.

The Aces now travel back to Loveland, Colorado for a 1:05pm ADT game Sunday against the Colorado Eagles at the Budweiser Events Center. It's the final game of the three-week, 10 game road trip. The Aces next home game is Wednesday, March 15 against the Cincinnati Cyclones.
