PORTLAND - Portland LumberJax transition player Tyler Codron has been named to the National Lacrosse League All-Rookie Team, the league announced today. A First Round Selection (No. 6 Overall) by the Jax in the 2007 NLL Entry Draft, Codron scored three goals, added eight assists and collected 68 loose balls in all 16 games of action during the regular season.

Codron has been an instrumental part of Portland's run to the Edge NLL Championship Game as he's often drawn the most difficult assignment on the defensive end. Last Saturday in Portland's 16-12 win over the Calgary Roughnecks for the West Division Title, Codron helped limit Roughnecks forward Tracey Kelusky to only one goal.

"This is a well deserved honor for Tyler", said Head Coach/General Manager Derek Keenan. "He has become out top shutdown defender while still contributing in the transition game."

Codron becomes the first rookie since defenseman Brodie Merrill to be named to the All-Rookie Team for the Jax. A native of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Codron also doubles as a defensive back for the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds.

"Tyler is everything we thought he would be when we selected him with our first pick", added Keenan. "His size, speed, skill and athleticism fits the mold of the type of defender we like in Portland. As he matures and gains more experience I expect he'll be a player just like Merrill - the complete package."
