Cobras Waive Elezovic, Sign Former SEC Standout

RALEIGH, N.C. (July 2, 2002)- The Carolina Cobras have waived kicker Peter Elezovic and signed former Mississippi State standout wide receiver Kevin Prentiss.
Elezovic (5-10, 180, Michigan) filled in for an injured Brian Schmitz (6-1, 175, North Carolina) during last week's 52-48 loss to the Orlando Predators. Elezovic was good on his only field goal attempt (37 yards), made three-of-five extra points and misfired on a two-point pass attempt. Schmitz will return to action this week for the Cobras (4-7).
Prentiss (5-7, 155, Mississippi State) was one of the most electrifying players in the history of Mississippi State football. He played in 23 games after transferring from Hinds Junior College prior to the start of the 1997 season. Over his two-year career as a Bulldog, Prentiss caught 58 passes for 1,066 yards and five TDs through the air and finished his career fourth on the school's all-time punt return average list (12.4 ypg, 31 returns for 383 yards). He earned Second-Team all-Southeastern Conference honors as a return specialist (1998) and participated in the 1999 Southwestern Bell Cotton Bowl against Texas.
Prentiss has also spent time on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad (1997-98) and has attended the New York Giants' and Indianapolis Colts' training camps.
In other moves, the Cobras signed FB/LB Jimmy Freeman (6-2, 238, Appalachian State) to the practice squad. Freeman began the season on Carolina's practice squad before joining the active roster June 5. He appeared in three games, recording two tackles and one pass break up, before being waived June 28.
This week, Carolina will look to put an end to their five-game losing streak as they head to Canada to take on the Toronto Phantoms (5-6) on Thursday, July 4 at 7:00 p.m. ET at the Air Canada Centre.
