July 2, 2002 - Chicago Rush WR/DB Dameon Porter was named the Arena Football League's Ironman of the Week for his performance in Chicago's 55-45 win over New York Sunday, the AFL announced today.
Porter, the league's reigning Ironman of the Year, caught three Billy Dicken passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns. On the other side of the ball, Porter recorded 2.5 tackles and intercepted his league-leading eighth pass of the season late in the second quarter of Sunday's game.
Porter, who tied the AFL record with 12 interceptions last season, now has 20 interceptions in his two seasons with the Rush. Only Orlando's Kenny McEntyre (21 interceptions in 2000 and 2001) has picked off more passes in a two-year span.
"Dameon is finally healthy and playing with the same confidence he had last year," said Rush head coach Mike Hohensee. "He is playing well in all three phases of the game - offense, defense and special teams."
In addition, Rush rookies Antonio Chatman, who caught eight passes and scored four touchdowns Sunday, and Marvin Taylor, who intercepted two passes, finished as runners-up in the voting for AFL Offensive and ADT Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively.
After traveling to Grand Rapids Saturday, the Rush returns home to Allstate Arena for its final two regular season games Saturday, July 13 and Saturday, July 20.
